Deadline, eligibility, level of support, jury and evaluation criteria
iPRES 2024 is delighted to offer a limited number of registration fee waivers and travel bursaries to support individuals who would otherwise be unable to attend the conference due to financial constraints. These opportunities will enable members of the digital preservation community from a diverse global constituency to participate in the iPRES 2024 conference, involving new participants in the application of digital preservation, and expanding the cultural diversity of the iPRES community.
All sections of the application form should be completed and submitted via Indico by the deadline of July 7, 2024 at noon (CEST).
Applications for funding are welcomed from students, early career professionals, and educators who are members of historically under-represented and marginalised communities and/or residents of under-represented countries and/or from low- and middle-income countries.
Foremost, let’s thank all the individual donors and the smaller and larger organisations who pay into this mutual fund, where applicants only need to complete one application form.
The applications will be evaluated and ranked by a volunteer jury:
Eliane Blumer (Switzerland)
Lisa Griffith (Ireland)
Jan Hutar (New Zealand)
Gladys Kemboi (USA)
Maureen Kenga (Kenya)
Quincy Oeyen (Belgium)
iPRES 2024 travel bursaries are open to:
Graduate or undergraduate students seeking degrees in or considering a career related to libraries, archives, museums, cultural heritage, or digital humanities
Early career professionals working in digital preservation (less than 5 years of experience in the field)
Residents of under-represented countries and/or from low- and middle-income countries as defined by World Bank
Members of an Indigenous, historically under-represented, or marginalised community. This includes community archive, library or museum groups.
Please note that only one application can be made per organization and if you are part of an organization, therefore you need to get approval from a supervisor or manager.
iPRES 2024 travel bursaries fund is open to different levels of support. The application form will encourage applicants to select the right level of support needed:
on-site attendees
partial or full waiver of registration fee
amount for lodging in Ghent
amount for travel costs
online attendees
partial or full waiver of registration fee
attendees of only the pre-conference workshop day (Monday)
partial or full waiver of registration fee
Practical requirements for on-site attendees:
The applicant must comply with all travel regulations and if a visa for Belgium is required, applicants must apply for it separately.
The applicant must be able to fund all other costs above the amount granted, as many kinds of travel and subsistence expenses are involved in attending the iPRES conference on-site, some not covered by the bursary.
iPRES 2024 Travel Bursaries will be evaluated on a number of criteria:
Under-represented community, country or region | 1 pt possible |
New opportunity or first-time participant | 1 pt possible |
Completeness and clarity of the application | 1 pt possible |
Applicant’s resume or CV | 1 pt possible |
Contribution to the conference program | 2 pts possible |

Every application will be reviewed by at least 3 jury members and an overall score will be assigned to rank all the applicants.
The available funds for bursaries will be assigned according to the ranking.
The first decisions will be communicated to applicants before July 11, 2024 at noon. If more funding becomes available, a second round of assignments will be made before August 9th, 2024 at noon.
